I work primarily within the medium of photography. In the last few years this has been with camera-less photography (or photograms) in particular, and this technique dates back to the birth of photography. The quote below, by William Henry Fox Talbot, seems to sum up the idea of capturing shadows, which is a term often used in conjunction with photograms: -"The most transitory of things, a shadow, the proverbial emblem of all that is fleeting and momentary, may be fettered by the spells of our natural magic, and may be fixed forever in the position which it seemed only destined for a single instant to occupy".
Painting with light is another term that could be applied to the making of photograms as light is the tool used to create these works and, incidentally, “Sunlight” is the manufacturer’s mark on the sheets used for my large scale Cyanotypes. In a sense light is both the subject and the paintbrush. I use both Black & White and Colour photographic media for my work, as well as Cyanotype (or Blueprint) and I experiment widely within all areas.
